He never expected to be a cancer patient at age 31. His story could be anyone's.
Jamie Pimek understands the difference that a year can make.
When the 32-year old project manager was diagnosed with colon cancer last fall, his life changed in an instant.
Southlake’s doctors worked fast when they discovered the tumour — the operating room was booked that day and the tumour was removed three weeks later. Jamie began chemotherapy right after the surgery.
“I’m so fortunate that this care was available so close to home,” says Jamie.
“Chemotherapy is exhausting. When you’re done, all you want to do is go home and get comfortable. I can’t imagine travelling for treatment and then spending another two hours in the car!”
The construction company that Jamie works for — along with many of their clients — are long time supporters of Southlake Foundation. Since receiving his cancer treatment at Southlake, Jamie has a better understanding of what that means, and just how important community support is. “I’m so grateful that people are donating their hard earned money to support Southlake, so that people like me can get treatment close to home,” he says.
Today, thanks to community support, Jamie is living each day to the fullest.
Jamie’s cancer is in remission and he has his life back. Jamie tells us that he’s looking forward to his second chance, and he’s so grateful to people like you, for transforming his life and making that possible!
